What is the point of all the courses I am doing? The point is, even as an old guy, I am a marketable commodity again, even being disabled and being confined to my home. These are my skills.
Web Design and Front-End Web Development.
I turn Photoshop demos into fully functioning, responsive websites. These may be fully coded HTML5 or Bootstrap sites, or they might be WordPress child-theme creations. I code and develop the websites using Adobe Dreamweaver.
Search Engine Optimisation
I am rather good and researching and positioning websites on to page one of Google using organic search engine optimisation. I research the keyword competition using Market Samurai, Google Trends, and the Google Keyword Tool.
One of my tactics is to take a text and graphic website and to convert some of the content in video. I then optimise the videos, which are easier to rank than websites, and link back to the website, (which helps with its ranking).
Video Creation and Marketing
With most of the Internet Crowd on social media and smart-phones, video is the best way to communicate to this marketplace. Video sharing is extremely popular, a lot of time is concentrated on viewing videos for pleasure.
One of my interests is video marketing, specifically for social media. It is surprising to me why, so few local businesses do not go down this road when promoting their offers. I use Explaindio 4, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator to create my videos, which I search engine optimise for optimal ranking potential.
For years now I have invested in the best UK-Based hosting services. I have become a bit of an expert with Linux SSD server configuration. I offer clients the option of using Liverpool Hosting, (my own web hosting), to host their web sites.
It makes sense when offering after-sales support, to have the client hosted on the best available hosting. The client has the best of both worlds and can concentrate on their business instead of worrying if their site goes down for some reason.
I am a bit of a conversational writer, communicating in an informal, and hopefully an entertaining and relaxing way. I write all of my own website copy and have written much for other over the years. I have been termed as a, “breath of fresh air” by business owners struggling to come to grips with internet marketing or promoting their businesses online.
Years ago, I was a Marketing Director for an Entertainments Agency. This was at a time when computers and the Internet was new in the UK, (in 1991-3). Using Lotus Symphony and other DOS-based programs, and an array of over-heated and noisy dot-matrix printers, I honed my marketing skills on the public. Over a decade later, I started to learn digital marketing, starting when I was still working as a coach driver in 2006.
I have always been impatient to find a way to run a home business. A temporary six-month job as a bus driver in 2001 lasted until my accident in 2010, and then, up until 2014. For eight of those years, I started learning the digital marketing scene.
When speaking to business owners, I can find viable digital routes to market which they had not considered. It is something I just have developed a knack for since those heady days back in the early nineties.
My Skills Set
In the digital world you must shout out loud when it come to your abilities. It might seem, self-conceited, or even boastful, but it is merely a way to get heard by those seeking help.
I have often been asked why I simply do not pick one of my skills and concentrate on that. In an ideal world I might do that. However, in the real-world clients have varying needs, if you can meet all of those needs, those customers come to trust in your abilities and stay loyal to you.
Another question is about my music. Being a former professional entertainer, and even at sixty, not being too old to get back on stage, why do I not use those musical skills now? It is my disability. I have a spine injury which causes me a lot of pain, so doing the Chuck Berry kick-step is pretty much over for me. I would love to do some informal gigs one day. I have the equipment and the ability to do it, but the truth is I am scared to try at the present. Maybe one day.
I have told you about some of my skills on this page. It is not a concise list by any means. I have not mentioned my graphic design or app programming skills. I am what my father use to call, “a jack of all trade, a master of none.” The thing is, in this digital informational age, the skills I lack are easily learned as I need them. (Hence the hundred plus courses on Udemy.com).
